A Race Towards Awareness

About Us

A group of individuals with the goal to raise awareness in our community about a disease that affects many people around us. Our board consists of Nichole, Javier, James, and Cassandra. We represent Nice Cuts Barber Salon in Fort Worth, Texas.

So why is a group from a barber shop coordinating this event?

This is a question we get all of the time. A young man named Christopher Odom grew up with Javier and they both frequented the barber shop that Nichole has owned and operated since 2003. Chris had sickle cell and was the biggest promoter of Camp Jubilee. Chris started as a camper at Jubilee and then came back as a counselor. In 2014 Chris died from complications of sickle cell. The impression he has left on our hearts has spurred us to create this run and bring awareness into our community. 100% of race profits go directly to Camp Jubilee.

About Camp Jubilee

The mission of Camp Jubilee is to provide a week long camping experience for campers with sickle cell disease at no cost to the campers. Camp Jubilee builds a child’s confidence, increases self-worth and self-esteem, and allows campers to meet other campers with Sickle Cell Disease. Camp Jubilee also provides the parents "time-off" from the stress of caring for a child with a chronic illness.
